Definitely something to consider if you play in a band with amplified instruments. Playing while wearing earplugs takes a bit of getting used to, but it's worth it if you want to avoid long term problems such as tinnitus. I would recommend getting into the habit of wearing hearing protection when attending gigs as an audience member as well. As a musician, your ears are your most valuable asset.
