P Mauriat PMB-300 UL Low A Baritone Saxophone - Unlacquered

A warm, fat sounding baritone with room filling capabilities

The P. Mauriat range of horns has always had the feel of vintage saxes and this is, in many ways, just taking things to their logical conclusion- an unlacquered range. Now exactly what effect the lack of lacquer has is a hotly debated topic it is quite clear that the 300UL has a somewhat different quality to the other finishes in the Mauriat range.

Staff review

This horn is incredibly free blowing, it is certainly up there with the Yanagisawa range for effortless response. At low volumes it plays warm, light and rich (very Gerry Mulligan) while when a lot of air is put through it can roar like a lion with the right mouthpiece. (Mauriats in general seem to love having a lot of air put through them- really responding well when played powerfully, and the 300UL is no exception). The key action is comfortable and light, even getting around the lowest notes is very effortless.
